Spare Some Change? eBay Seller Lists Porsche 928 GTS for $109k and BMW 850CSi for $67k

For many of us born in the 1970s and early 1980s, the Porsche 928 and the BMW 8-Series were amongst the most impressive sports / GT models of their time.

Sure we had posters of a Lamborghini Countach (preferably with a puffy haired and scantily dressed bomb shell spreading over the Italian beast) and the Ferrari F40 or the Porsche 959 hanging on our side of the bedroom wall, but these models were clearly a pure fantasy that only a select few could ever own.

The 928 and the 8-Series, on the other hand, were more attainable and practical daydreaming material.

Our unfulfilled teenage dreams could explain why as adults we waste so many hours on eBay and Craigslist looking for "the" deal and then click over to dedicated forums to convince ourselves that we can handle their maintenance costs…

In one of our usual trips on eBay, we stumbled upon a pristine BMW 8-Series that led to a low-mileage Porsche 928, which to our surprise, was listed for sale by the same person.

BMW 325i Convertible E30 wants to be an 8-Series when it Grows Up

While there's only a single digit gap between the E30 and E31 codenames, in reality, these two BMW models couldn't be more different from each other.

The E30, a.k.a. the 1983-1991 3-Series, represented the firm's entry-level family car in the 1980s, while the E31, more widely known as the 8-Series, was the brand's flagship GT coupe in the 1990s.

But one German owner had the bright idea of taking a 1989 325i Convertible (albeit with pre-1987 tail lamps) and fusing the front end of an 850i Coupe on its nose. Of course, there was a slight problem with the width of the 8-Series fascia that was solved by…removing one of the BMW kidney grilles.

BMW Takes us on a Historical Journey of its Large Coupe and Convertible Models at its Museum

One of the star attractions for automotive enthusiasts visiting the German city of Munich is BMW's recently redone 53,000 square foot museum. Along with the permanent exhibitions, the Bavarian brand's museum also hosts special events dedicated to a certain period or line of vehicles.

Starting from October 28, 2011 and until the end of September 2012, the BMW Museum will present a special exhibition devoted to the development of the firm's large coupe and convertible models throughout the years.
