Prepared by the Bavarian firm's M division, the new M Performance models blend M Sport styling cues with M tuned engines and chassis components – and yes, we did notice that there are a lot of M's there. The new models are the M550d xDrive sedan, M550d xDrive Touring, X5 M50d and X6 M50d, and as their names suggest, they're all powered by the same diesel engine and feature the Bavarian firm's xDrive all-wheel drive system.
And before you get your hopes high, we'd better tell you that none of them are planned for the US market.

The new X4 will be built alongside the current X3, X5 and X6 crossovers at the Bavarian company's U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. For this reason, BMW will invest more than US$900 million in the Spartanburg factory over the next three years creating some 300 new jobs by the end of 2012.

Our man with the long lens caught up with a very early and hardly disguised prototype of the X6 in Germany. The only parts of the car covered, were the headlamps and the tail lamps, both of which will likely be revised to match the rest of the BMW line-up like the new 1-Series.
